A few gentle pointers
- Gaps are normal. You do not have to explain a gap on the page. Lead with what you can do now. If asked in an interview, honesty framed around growth is enough.
- Recovery counts as experience. Volunteering, peer support, program leadership, running meetings, helping in a sober house — those show reliability, responsibility, and teamwork. List them.
- Lead each point with a verb. “Organized,” “built,” “supported,” “managed.” Put one accomplishment per line.

Volunteer & program work
This is experience. Running a meeting, sponsoring, staffing a sober house, peer support, food pantry shifts, cleaning up after events — it shows reliability, responsibility and teamwork, and it belongs on the page. You never have to name a program you would rather not name; “a community organization” is a complete answer.

Education & training
GED, high school, college, trade certificates, recovery-program certificates, safety cards — anything you have earned belongs here.

Often the most employable thing on the page — forklift, ServSafe, CDL, CNA, OSHA 10, CPR, flagger, peer recovery specialist. If you hold it, list it.

A reference’s name and phone number are their details to give out, not yours — so ask them first, every time. “Available on request” is completely normal and is what most people put.
Have someone look it over
Optional, and completely anonymous. We never ask for your name or your email. You send a copy, we give you a code, and you come back with that code to read what the reviewer said. Everything is deleted after 30 days whether it has been read or not.
